January 1st--Happy New Year! Well hard to believe another year of racing is coming up. We will have 4 solid weekends of racing and some TT's thrown in during the racing months. Check the web site for updates. Hope you have a great year on and off the bike for '09!
2008 Prior Notes....
August 28th---The IN Stage Race was a fun weekend in many respects. The hand cyclists tore it up both days and we saw some quality and great sportsmanship throughout the weekend. Coming back to IN was enjoyable (minus the car ride with the 3 kids) and to see racers continue to support the IRS was much appreciated by me. Hope you have a great off-season and we have 3 wonderful weekend of racing planned for 2009 and of course, Monrovia. Stay tuned for more info and i will mail out awards for the Monrovia TT Series in mid-September.
Thanks go out to my sponsors, friends, racers, and future sponsors for supporting the IRS. It would be very difficult to keep racing alive in IN w/o you.
May 14th---The new team is called Indiebike.com and not Indievelo. Check out their website. Be prepared to laugh out loud at some of the photos of Jason hanging out at the office in bike attire/T-shirt. This is better than any Performance Catalog!
May 13th---Wanted to let you know there will not be a Monrovia TT this weekend. Enjoy your weekend.
May 11th---With the rain falling down in buckets, I fondly recall the race yesterday at Eagle Creek. That was a fun race. The course is a blast to ride. See video coming soon. It has that extra something special that so many racers like. I guess the same can be said for Mooresville and Ceraland. These venues are jewels of the Midwest racing community imho. Thanks to all the racers who came out and enjoyed some sunny weather for a change on Saturday. Sunday was back to the norm of rainy/stormy weather which saw a cancellation of the Monrovia TT. That has rarely happened in the long history of this course. We will add a Monrovia TT on May 18th to make up for this loss. Check the web for more info posted soon.
Some notes about the race on Saturday:
Special thanks to the Indiana Hand Center Racing Team for helping secure the intersections of this race. They did a great job and helped make the race run smoothly. Thank You!
Bob Brooks and Mario Camancho did a nice job as well on the announcing side. It was cool to have them to do the play-by-play of the racing action. I also liked the many interviews of the fans, racers, and sponsors that they sprinkled in among the racing action. That was a neat feature. Thanks again for stepping in to help fill the void in GP's absence. I truly appreciate it.
Thanks to Peter Johnson for helping me keep this business going across state lines. His support has been invaluable.
Always nice to see the TX Roadhouse bunch...it elevates everyone's game when they show up. Nice wins in the MAS 35+ and CAT 1-2-3 races. Graham Dewart probably led more laps at Eagle Creek Park despite not winning. He raced very well and was highly aggressive. He gets the shark award. Mike Sherman rode well in the breakaway group in the MAS 35+ race. He is riding strong. The Nebo Ridge Team looked exceptional in their new kits. They are the soul of the IRS in many ways. Thanks for your support of the races. The new team, Indievelo rode well as a team in the Citizens Race. The shop owner, Justin, seems like a great guy and i also like the new threads. Blayne Roeder, in the CAT 3's, had a magical day with a late solo break that he rode all the way to victory. A fitting way to go out of the IRS for Scott Hill--he won a tough sprint in the MAS 3/4 race. He is moving to OR. Good luck Scott.
I am glad many of you enjoyed the IRS "crack" popcorn and drinks. I try to make it nice for the spectators. The 10 to 1 Standings will be updated this week. Sorry for the delay. The next race is the McCormick's Creek Road Race. The course is 4.5 miles and its a fun little race. Has some elevation gain but not excessively so.
Ok..have a good week and enjoy the nice weather hopefully....best, dan Oh...if you have some photos of the race you want to share, let me know. I can post a link to your site.
May 3rd---Getting ready for Eagle Creek Park Traditional Crit. One of the fastest races i can recall from last year. If you have supported one of our sponsors in 2008, shoot me an e-mail. I can see about getting you a pass or something.
April 26th---What a beautiful weekend of racing. These 2 courses are some of the nicest in the country for racing imho. Dan Voight from CA commented that these venues simply don't exist out in the far left state. We are lucky to have parks like this to race in. You can tell from the video how nice they are. Speaking of which, I have more video that i need to post. It takes a good bit of time to do this, but as i get more time, i will post. The video is not the best, but you can get a sense of what is going on during the race.
I was very skeptical about holding the Ceraland race this year with another race only a few miles away. I was pleasantly surprised that my turnout was as good as it was. Thank you to the racers for coming to the race. It was again a fun weekend of racing, a bit cold and dreary, but overall, it was a memorable weekend on many accounts. See you at Eagle Creek.
April 8---The first race of the year for the IRS is in the book. It was a fun day with some fine racing. The course and overall venue was well received and we look forward to coming back again. Check out photos on the Results page. I will be working on results later this week. Thanks for racing on Saturday!
The Monrovia TT took place on Sunday. The times were quite slow despite the light wind. It was rather chilly and i am sure that had much to do the slower times. Only 1 person broke an hour---Frances Manfred...So considering FM's time, we all can take some comfort that better times are ahead and the weather adversely impacted all abilities. See you in May for the next TT(T). Photos of this TT will be posted soon.
If you are interested in seeing how my kids are growing up, check this link. I know some of you miss them at the races. Here
March 13---The IRS is happy to report that T3 Multisport will be a sponsor of the IRS. This shop looks quite impressive. See Below. March 8---Few notes about the MAS 3/4 Category. Some clarification is in order. As our sport gets older, I feel like this is an excellent category for the older racer who can't train more than 10 hours per week, etc. The great thing about bike racing is that you can compete and challenge yourself among your peers. I am trying to incorporate a level playing field so to speak for this group. With this in mind, here are some guidelines for the MAS 3/4 group. If you fail to meet these general guidelines or if you have questions, just e-mail me (abrdaly@aol.com) and we can discuss your situation. Thanks. Ok here we go:
1. Must be at least 35+ years old......if you are, then you need to go on and read the other criteria. Again if you are 30+, then e-mail and you need to make sure you fit the other criteria below.
2. You have not placed consistently in the top 5 in the CAT 3 and MAS 35+ races.
and/or
3. You have not placed in the top 15 in a CAT 1-2-3 race.
So basically, if you have not placed in the top 15 and not consistently have top 5 finishes, you are eligible to race in this category. In essence, this category is more like a CAT 4/5 group. I am trying to lay a foundation for this group so people have a better sense of if they belong in this group.
Hey TT'ers...i added an old school category called Eddy Merckx. No areo equipment, no special helmet, and no special wheels. Clipless pedals allowed though! Bring your retro jersey and that will score major points!
March 2---Posted the Mighty Miss Res Road Race. Should be an epic race and can't wait to start the season up North! A few things about 2008. A new category will be added to the Monrovia TT Series--- called old-school. No special aero equipment, wheels, etc. Just like the old day's, just you and your bike. For 2008, we will have the MAS 3/4 Category. It will be important that racers should not sandbag and cherry pick in this category. The MAS 3/4 is designed for the older rider who is still very competitive, but just not at the next level where it seems the MAS 35+ group is at. I think instinctively, you will or should know, who you are. If not, let me know and i can provide some guidance. Thanks.
February 26---The race flyer for Ceraland is now posted. There have been 2 flyers circulating. Sorry about that. I posted the Monrovia TT as well. More flyers coming.
February 25---Changed a few things on the schedule. Due to some factors out of my control, they were needed. I think the schedule is fair and fun. There are obvious other races out there and now there are enough days to make all promoters and racers happy.
February 3rd---What is up with all the late fees i have been seeing? Did i miss something?
The Sub-hour club shirts came in yesterday and they look great. The color of the shirt is ash with a blue and white background. Should be a welcome addition to your T-shirt collection.
February 2nd---Schedule of the 2008 Season is posted! As noted earlier, I think its a fair schedule and has the making of a short, but intense racing season. There may be a few adjustments made to the schedule so check back and changes will be made in blue.
I know the competition for your racing dollar is fierce here in the Midwest. I have attempted to strike a balance between entry fee, prize money and race distance/duration. Never an easy job. Bike race promoting is a tough business and its especially hard here in the Midwest. I appreciate your past and future support.
If you or your club is in a position to help support the races, let me know. I would be remiss not to seek or ask for help. Thanks and more race flyers coming!
January 2nd---Happy New Year! The TT at Morgan-Monroe on April 19th will be lengthened from 7 to 10 miles. It will be a point A to point B TT with the start on Anderson Road and proceeding to go the opposite way of the RR course. It will test your TT skills.
I was thinking over the holidays about how long I have been promoting bike racing - nearly 20 years. During that time, I have seen many racers, several promoters, and a slew of races enter and leave the racing community. Each year I work hard on organizing and establishing a racing schedule that will be worthy of your presence and effort. It's both a challenge to find venues, produce a schedule, and offer a decent prize list amidst the sea of races here in the Midwest.
I am committed to putting on races in IN for 2008. If anything, I am reliable and consistent in what I do. Anyway, have a great year - looking forward to the Big Ten!
